The United States Food and Drug Administration is the government agency responsible for regulating food, dietary supplements, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, biologics, and blood products in the United States.

Howell Electric was selected to provide pre-construction, electrical engineering, and electrical construction for the FDA’s new 72,000 sf Northern California Regional Laboratories.

This facility features: 16,000 sf of microbiology labs, 12,000 sf of chemistry labs, virology labs, tissue culture labs, quarantine areas, 36,000 sf of support offices, 8,000 sf of equipment areas, glass wash area, and multiple hazardous chemical storage areas.

The MEP systems included new 2,000 Amp 480 Volt electrical service, 300 KW emergency generator, 2-600 Amp 480 Volt motor control centers, 200 Ton air cooled chiller, 3-50 HP air handlers, 20 exhaust fans, services for 30 fume hoods, 18 bio safety cabinets, 20 -80° freezers, and large capacity RO/DI, CDA, & VAC systems.
