Pioneer Hi-Bred is the world’s leading developer and supplier of advanced plant genetics to farmers worldwide. Pioneer is engineering drought tolerant and insect resistant seeds for plants that will result in higher yields for the grower.

Howell Electric was selected to provide pre-construction services, electrical engineering, electrical construction, and fire alarm systems for Pioneer’s new 60,000 sf two building West Coast research and production facility.

This facility features: 20,000 sf of LEED accredited office areas, 16,000 sf of biology labs, 6,000 sf of transformation labs, Class 10,000 clean room for insect research, multiple tissue culture labs, mass spectrometry lab, glass wash media prep room, autoclave room, robotics lab, x-ray lab, radiation lab, multiple equipment rooms, cold room, 7 environmentaly controlled growth chambers, flammable storage room, and 5 green houses totaling 8,000 sf.

The MEP systems consisted of a 3,000 Amp 480 Volt electrical service, 750 KW emergency generator, 1,200 Amp 480 Volt automatic transfer switch, emergency power distribution system, high density lab power with over 20-400 Amp electrical panels, 600 Amps of power and 90 lighting circuits to support the 265-1000 Watt grow lights in the green houses, fully coordinated electrical systems with fault study, coordination study, and arc flash study, 250 Ton air cooled chiller, 50 HP air handler, 120KW steam generator, 5 autoclaves, large capacity RO/DI, CDA, and VAC systems.
